Worst Months for the Spanish Pandemic
I'm writing a short story and I can't seem to find the information I need. It's based on the returning soldiers in Canada after WWI. I'm trying to align when the soldiers returned and when many people were dying from the Spanish Influenza. I know that the war ended on November 11th 1918, that the Spanish flu hit through 1918-1919 and I believe it was worst in the fall, but I'm not sure because everything I read is contradictory. Does anyone know what months these two occurred simultaneously? It would really help :)

Flu question MIcrobiologists opinion prefered
The Spanish flu of 1918 is the same protein compound strain of this new swine flu, h1n1. I have read many articles that recall that the flu pandemic of 1918 began very benign, but returned later as a mutated strain that killed 50,000,000 people worldwide. Now, I do understand that there were military conditions that made it spread easier, and medical technology was hardly what it is now. My question is, if they are both h1n1 strains, why is it that we are less concerned about it this time around? Are there other factors other than the h1n1 part of a flu strain that dictate its lethality? And if there are, what might those differences be? Do you know anything about this strain that gives you as an expert, any opinion on the possible outcome? Would it be beneficial to catch this less lethal version of it, and build an immunity to the more viral mutated version? I know the last swine flu we saw in 1976 had more people die from the vaccine than the infection. How do you feel about the vaccine process? Thanks to anyone with expertise in this for of science.
